A Cottage Boutique
An American Folk Art Faire
A bit about the Promoter...
Kerry Schmidt is a fourth generation folk artist who has been creating folk art ever since she was a little girl.  She sold much of her art in “hand-made” art and craft fairs. But during the past several years, Kerry found that more and more imported goods were being sold in the so-called “handmade” shows from the booths around her. Reproductions from China typically carry a price tag as much as five times less than handmade pieces sold directly from the artist.  It was a dilemma that was forcing her out of the market.  That’s when she decided to do something about it and use some of the business savvy she had gained from her MBA.
As an artist, Kerry realized that a new venue for artists was needed in order for them to sell their handmade goods. Nothing manufactured would be considered and all artists would be juried. It wasn’t a new concept in selling arts and crafts, but still, there were no such shows locally that highlighted hand made folk art made in America and sold directly by the artist. Thus,
A Cottage Boutique, "An American Folk Art Faire" was born.
